FINAL: Veritech [Context]

This project was harder than I thought it would of been due to the time of year & people having deadlines also I could only find one person who had time to remix my final display piece. We spoke about idea's about how we wanted the track to sound but I told him to have full control of anything he would like to do as long as he could keep one element from the original file.

Info about producer:
Name - John Williams
E-mail - veritech@live.com
Website - link
USA, humboldt county california.

I asked John after he had sent me the remixed version back any thoughts he had on the track and this is he reply:

"I would like more time to change up the beats more and get more movement in the music to be honest.
I liked the samples that you started with, it makes me want to go to the bar and do some recording next time.
I figured some downtempo brokenbeats would go well with the original sounds and give the
original samples the most emotion behind them."

Below is the final track remixed.

FINAL: Pentacontakaiheptagon [Object]

I decided instead of handing in the 3D object I would simple take some photo's of it from angles I thought was interesting. The reason for just handing 2 photographs is because I feel they are a more finalised vision of what I had planned from the start of the project. Below this post is the 2 final photographs.

I will be handing the final edited & unedited original photographs on a usb stick.

Socialy engaged [Context]

So I've finished my final piece for display and as I said before I will be posting all the files so people can download them & make remixes of the track, I've asked a few other producers to get involved but at the moment I'm still waiting for them to get back to me.

I've also posted links to this project via facebook to my contacts list due to having alot of producers added to my network to try get as many people involved as possible. Below is all the files and the program info to download.

FINAL: Life's about [Display]

So after spending so much time making the other tracks for this project I ended up taking a break from it. After listening back to my other work it was clear that none of them worked well for this project, so I decided to re-cut a bunch of samples I recorded & just make a "track" of purely recorded sounds to re-tell a story of a night out in a minimal way. Below is the outcome.

Co-lab [Context]

I've decided to link my context project with my display project, by letting other producers being able to download my final display piece with all the files & sound clips to be able to make a remix of the track. The way I see it being social engaged is anyone can take part of this project when ever they feel like...even after the deadline date. I will post more of this project up after I have finished my final piece for display.

FINAL: Relativity? [Image]

After Cutting down all the footage I had, I decided that I wanted to make my four short films into one but still have them playing at the same time so using premiere pro I layered my footage over one another to get that ghost image effect I was after. I also added a track to the film to give it more depth as I thought it fitted well with the footage and linked in with my other projects.

Triangle [Object]

Came across this link today while looking for more idea's for my object project, I really like the geometric shapes & started make some of the first polygon triangles for my final piece now it's planned out in my head.  I've made the triangles using 10x10cm squared paper and folding them in in a way so that are square still but when pushed together they form part of a triangle. 3of these = 1 full triangle. [image below]

sound is not just noise & Liquid test [Display]

After going thought the tutorial in the lost post I came up with 2 more idea's for my display project both are posted below. After working for hours on both of these tracks I realised that they where both more "music" than sound and I've decided to go back to the idea of using the recorded sounds I got to make something with more depth & better fitting to the project brief.

Drum & Bass [research]

I wanted to make a Drum & Bass style track for my display project but was having issue's getting the beat in time, so I looked about on google & came across a very easy to follow tutorial on link it was really helpful so thought I would post it up on here as it shows you a bit more in depth of how the program I use works rather than me posting screenshots.

Dronetech & Techdrone [Display]

I spend alot time making "sounds" within reason & save the patch files to using in multiple projects, below is two track idea's I came up with after building my own "synth" [Synth screen shots below.]

I've doomed us all [Display]

Another idea for my display project, below is a few screen shots of the program I use to show how parts of it work.

57 Sides [Object]

I really like geometric shapes & have a strange thing for triangles, so I looked about online to see what I info I could find either it be 2D or 3D and this is a few links fro my research.

delta-twenty-one I like the fact this is a photoshop image but the "object" still looks very hand made and the shapes are nice & clean which is something that makes it stand out and work visually. The rest of the blog has some pretty intersting work also: link

This is simply mind blowin & fits in very well with all of my four projects. It's a stage design using white "triangle" shapes as a basic starting point. The most basic why I could work out to make my project have 57 sides was "6*9 = 54+3 = 57" So I will make 6 sided 3D polygon triangles using paper. [pics to follow]

Club noise [Display]

While I was out getting in footage for my Image project I also set my mp4 player to record to gather sounds fro my display project the files are to big to be uploaded to youtube or soundcloud so I have posted them upto mediafire as a downloadable file via the link below...in the .rar file there is also some of the "cut" samples which I intend to use in my final piece.

Objects & Movement [Image]

For my image project I have decided that my "objects" will be people, This will be how they interact to music in a nightclub or they way the club interacts with them. So I went out and recorded alot of footage from a few different night clubs and started to edit down idea's. I will be handing the raw footage in on a usb pen drive...as there's to much to post up within a blog.

I also come across these videos while lookin about for idea's. Vinroc video & Flyin Lotus

B&W darkroom [workshop]

A few producers who inspire me:

Icicle, Break, Spectrasoul, Calibre, Mutt, Kubiks, D-Bridge, Netsky, Clarity, Bachelors Of Science, Deep focus, Submerse, Datsik, The New Law, Burial, Kerogen, Asa, Egoless, Flyin Lotus, Fureshu, Substep Infrabass, Alex Perez, Dave Owen, Bcee, Merce, Royal -T, Vinroc, Boards Of Canada, Massive Attack, Unkle, Fanu, Cybo, Senator Adam, Redeyes.

All of these can be found on youtube, soundcloud or myspace.

Don't fear [Display]

After listing back to the last track I produced as a idea for this project I decided that I would try something else within the same music style using different samples and a slight more up pitched beat & bassline. Also more gave the track more "space" between the the different sounds so you can focus more on them individually.

Same software & hardware as used before.

Google translate can beatbox? [research]

Today while hunting around online I came across this link on how to turn Google's translate tool into a beatbox machine...check it out & have a play it's pretty cool. Given some time I reckon you could spend about a hour & make some sort of track using this.

This is mine: "bschk krp thp vkktktvt kttp pv bschk th krp pvzkth thp pv vk vk vk kttp"

Dark tides of orca [Display]

Below is my first idea for "Display: retell a story using only sound as the means of presentation"
I wanted to create something leading on from my psychogeography project but using more professional sampled sounds than recording something though my mp5 player, also something alot more "cleaner & clear".

Story idea: someone/thing searching for a lost clan of orca though a dark twisted storm feeling uneasy & shocked/scared. I used a royalty free sound bank for most of the orca/weather samples the rest is writen using built in refill banks within Reason 3 using a korg nano pad. The image below was a quick Idea I had after listing to one of the samples I used within the track.

Intagilo printmaking [workshop]

A basic print making technique in which we used mount card as a printing plate & "cut/marked/scored" into the top layer of the card to make a design/pattern or different textures to see how they would work printed.

After you have got your plate design you varnish it to stop the ink getting in & ruining the plate, then you use a brayer roller & water-based ink to ink the plate...the next stage is to set up your plate on a rolling press with your paper and felt-cloth to protect the roller then send it though the press. Below is my plate & print outcome.

Digital photography [workshop]

This workshop was pretty intense but enjoyable, there was alot to take in! We learnt about using a digital-slr camera in manual mode, using the iso, shutter speed & aperture to take a prefect photo using the correct settings then using Adobe Bridge to create a contact sheet to look easily though the images we took.

Also learnt about different file types & which are best suited for the individual task like RAW, TIFF & JPEG. Below is a couple of examples from this workshop.

Film [workshop]

In this workshop we was given a basic tutorail using Adobe Premiere to edit video & sound clips. Also looked at different types of video/digital camera's for recording & the file types you would use for each one.

After this we was all given some pre-recorded clips from the tutor & told to produce a short film to show we have basic undearstanding of the program, we worked in small groups...below is mine & Alex's piece which was used on the uni open day in the terradome.

Casting [workshop]

A one day workshop to learn the basics of casting something using clay & plaster to make a mould then filling it with wax to make a cast, everyone used a piece fruit for this project. Below is the mould and outcome.

Psychogeography

"Psychogeography: can be simply defined as the effects of the geographical environment on the emotions and behavior of individuals."

So I decided that I would go out around the surrounding area's of the uni late at night & record the sounds I hear using my mp5 player then using "reason" to chop, cut & manipulate the sounds. Then arrange them to a "drone" style track based around how I was feeling at the time. Below is the outcome under the image.

We also had to display what we had "made" in a appropriate manner, so I chose to use a locker & isolate the sound off away from other peoples work to give it more depth.
